Well, here I finally am, ready to join in the awesome conversations out there in the library blogosphere. I’ve been an avid reader and sometime commenter on many library, technology, and marketing-related blogs, and it’s time for me to throw my hat in the ring. If I don’t join in, I think my head might explode.

I spend a lot of my professional and personal life in libraries, talking with library staff, thinking about library service, and discussing library issues. And I’m ready for a revolution.

There are a lot of questions that need asking about the way we offer service to our patrons, and about the services themselves. There are herds and herds of sacred cows to slaughter if we are going to take our libraries to the next level. There are myths to dispel, tantrums to throw, and most of all, ideas to exchange all in the name of revolution. But that’s hardly news.

It’s not just about change, and certainly not about change for change’s sake. The Revolution is about reassessing, questioning, and taking action to make our libraries stronger, our patrons more empowered, and our staff bulletproof in the face of a changing world. The Revolution is about moving forward, upward, and outward as we help libraries evolve and grow. The Revolution is about not only surviving in today’s world, but about thriving in tomorrow’s. Revolt or die.
