No, I do not always return my library materials on time. And I don’t even care.
If I have to pay a couple of bucks in fines now and then… so what? It’s worth it for me to be able to live my life on my schedule. I don’t want to revolve any part of my life around when something is due back to the library. It’s just not that important. I’ve got stuff to do.
So hold your horses, library - you’ll get your stuff back. But it will be when I’m good and ready to bring it back.
At 5 cents/day, 10 cents/day, even $1/day, who cares? The library is still the best deal in town.

How can I Avoid Library Fines?

It’s the cost of doing business for libraries.

Oh, yeah. I think we all know that one.
But I’m not really interested in avoiding fines. I’ll pay. Actually, I find it much more liberating as a patron to not give a crap about worrying about getting things back on time to avoid a fine. They can go ahead and charge me. I can’t be bothered worrying about their little 10 cents/day. They can have it.

We don’t call them fines anymore - they’re “extended loan fees”. It’s a little ridiculous, but it does remove the punitive implication.

We don’t have fines, people are surprised by this but we don’t get the money directly, the town does and I think some library users are afraid to bring things back because of fines.
