My son, Robert, is 15 months old. At least a month ago, he figured out that Mommy’s computer mouse has two buttons. And clicking those two buttons makes different things happen, depending on which button you push. He just played around with the mouse and figured this out.
Let me reiterate. He’s ONE.
So why do I need to explain this so often to librarians?

We bought Hallie (our 4 and 1/2 year old) a computer at 2.. She took to the mouse right away and now can go on the Web and go to her favorite sites. I put a sticker on the right mouse button and told her only to use the “sticker button”. She figured it out right away.
These kids are very smart.

Just don’t do what I did the other day….
I told a patron to RIGHT CLICK and I was really confused when he TOOK HIS HAND OFF THE MOUSE and started using the keyboard…. he did actually start TYPING the words RIGHT CLICK - I kid you not!
LOL!

I don;t know how many times I’ve had to say: “Right click. No, RIGHT click. Your OTHER right.”

Thanks everybody for sharing in my frustration! Misery loves company. It’s nice to know I’m not alone.
And yes, Steven, kids these days are DAMN smart!!

Kids this age have no fear or preconceived notions everything is new — that’s why they can do it. My daughter is the same way and we use a trackball at home instead of a traditional mouse.
